English for New Americans uses an immersion approach, thus enabling students to use English much as they would in real life while providing them with the tools and support they need to understand and participate in everyday situations. This approach also makes the program accessible to learners of any language background.
The centerpiece of each lesson on the VIDEO DVD and cassette (both included) is a practical real-life situation, such as finding an apartment, opening a bank account, or using the telephone. In addition to the scenarios, each lesson also teaches key vocabulary and useful phrases. Unrehearsed interviews with real people model language as it’s really spoken “on the street” enabling students to understand various regional or international accents and providing a glimpse of real life in the United States.
The WORKBOOK features exercises and explanations that are closely related to the lessons on the video DVD or cassette, allowing students to practice and master the vocabulary and grammar that are featured on the video.
The AUDIO CD and cassette provides additional practice of key vocabulary and structures, encouraging the listener to speak by repeating after the native speakers and participating in interactive exercises. The audio CD and cassette is also a perfect way to review the material covered on the video and in the workbook on the go, anywhere it’s convenient.
Teaches "real" language necessary to participate in important everyday situations.
The medium of video provides an added dimension to learning. Learners see the language being spoken. Through gestures, expressions, and context, learners can readily comprehend and imitate.
